The RCIC is a process for children, ages 8-17, who have not been baptized and want to join the Catholic Church. The children will receive the Sacraments of Initiation, which are Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil, when they are considered prepared.
During this process, the children will receive a better understanding of what it means to know and love God. The Ten Commandments will be introduced. The children will have a better understanding of what sin means and learn how to live their lives according to God's commandments. They will also learn about what it means to be Catholic; how to develop their relationship with God; and to identify themselves as children of God. The importance of attending weekly Mass will be stressed. Learning how to use the Bible; reading Old and New Testament stories; and learning the parts of the Mass will be covered in their lessons.
Each student will need to choose a sponsor, who will support the child in his/her Catholic journey. The sponsor must be a baptized and confirmed Catholic, who is at least 16 year of age and is in good standing with the Catholic Church.
